US steelmaker Nucor has held a ceremonial ground-breaking for its recycled-steel micro mill in Lexington, North Carolina, which aims to start production by the end of 2024.
The mill represents a $350 million investment and expects to eventually employ 200 workers.
Nucor started hiring earlier this year for the mill, which will produce rebar for construction and other industries.
“All of us are going to be working together, not just to make steel but working together to lead in industrial decarbonization within our country through the use of zero-carbon electricity, and clean recycled steel that will provide the solutions that any business needs to ensure that they can decarbonize their own industrial supply chain,” said Leon Topalian, CEO of Nucor.
