AMG Vanadium has selected a new Ohio location for its second spent catalyst processing facility as part of its planned expansion to roughly double its annual ferro-vanadium and ferro-nickel-molybdenum production.
With the new facility, AMG Vanadium – a subsidiary of Amsterdam-based AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group – will expand its overall spent catalyst recycling capacity by 35,000 tonnes and its vanadium production capacity by 6 million lbs, with an aim to tackle growing demand from the global refining and steel industries.
Construction at the Washington Township site in Ohio, approximately 25 miles from AMG’s Ohio-based headquarter facility, is set to begin in summer 2019 with a target of completion in 2021.
The decision to build a new facility was first announced in October 2018 amid historic price rises in the vanadium market, which saw Fastmarkets assessment of the price for ferro-vanadium, in warehouse Pittsburgh, United States, peak at $55.50-57 per lb on November 15, its highest level since May 2005.
