GTI Resources Ltd (ASX:GTR) has set its near-term sights on exploration at its gold and uranium assets in Western Australia and the United states respectively.
The company plans to begin exploration activities in Utah over two newly acquired uranium leases shortly and will focus on a robust development target with more than 1,300 metres of historical underground workings.
These leases in the Henry Mountains district of south-central Utah join the Jeffery and Rats Nest projects and consolidate ownership across a contiguous 5.5 kilometres of the interpreted mineralised trend.
The company is confident there is real potential in the district for mine redevelopment and production of high-grade uranium and vanadium ores.
Data review confirms prospectivity
GTI has conducted a full review of a recently acquired data package, targeting to support the exploration activities on the leases and has confirmed the prospectivity of the acquired land package.
The company has also completed underground mapping on two historical developments, known as the East Mine and West Mine – both of which were operated into the late 1970s and show evidence of more modern mining techniques than seen in much of the Henry Mountains uranium district.
After completing the mapping, the company plans to finish pXRF screening of the mine ribs throughout both mines to further study controls on mineralisation, local trends and prospectivity beyond the current development.
Sampling within the underground workings with a pXRF has yielded values up to 19.64% uranium oxide and 6.08% vanadium pentoxide and demonstrate excellent mineralised potential in all directions.
Exploration activities planned
The planned exploration activities will include geophysical logging of the numerous exploration drill holes to confirm prior exploration activities and the advancement of numerous underground core drill holes.
The exploration work is planned for early Q2 2021, with a follow-up program in Q3, and the results of this program will allow for the study of the controls and distribution of ore-grade mineralised material, as well as generate data for the construction of a possible mineral resource.
Niagara Gold Project drilling
Notably, recently completed first pass shallow reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Niagara Gold Project in Western Australia’s Central Goldfields returned results of 0.98 g/t gold.
The 2,376 metres of drilling with 16 holes to an average depth of 128.5 metres confirmed anomalous gold with downhole assay results of up to 0.98 g/t and 0.54 g/t intersected below the previous results of 2.78 g/t.
In addition, the drilling has helped identify a new target below a rock chip sample assaying 2.4 g/t gold.
The company is confident these results further confirm the gold anomalism related to this NNE trend and provide encouraging targets for follow-up exploration.
Four new prospecting licences
GTI was granted four new prospecting licences – P40/1515, P40/1516, P40/1517 and P40/1506 – in addition to the recently acquired P40/1513 and P40/1518.
This land package now creates an enlarged consolidated holding over the extensive historic mine workings of the Niagara gold mining district.’
The tenements incorporate the historic White Cross and Perseverance mining areas and smaller historic working trends, including the Christmas and Good Friday trends.
Orion Trend extends ENE to the south of the tenement holdings and hosts the historic Orion/Sapphire mine.
Exploring historical workings
The company recently received an independent WAMEX compilation report from CSA Global assessing the historical gold production and exploration activity at the newly granted prospecting licences.
This report indicates that the workings produced 5,100 ounces of gold at a grade of 25.8 g/t between 1898 and 1914.
The company believes that an opportunity exists to extend the known mineralisation from historic workings to deeper levels and along strike with further drilling.
Planning is underway for field programs to undertake surface mapping and additional rock chip sampling with the results expected to assist in targeting future RC drilling programs.
