www.ferroalloynet.com: It is learnt world vanadium production has some slight increase in recent years. The total production for vanadium was 80,000 metric tons (MT) in 2017, mined production of the metal dropped to 71,200 MT in 2018 with a rapid uptick to 86,800 MT in 2019, and that mined product for vanadium may have slight decline to 86,000 MT in 2020, according to US Geological Survey. China, Russia, Brazil and South Africa are the top four vanadium producers.
China produced 53000 tons vanadium-mining, 120822 tons V2O5 (flake and power), 62751 tons vanadium nitrogen and 9836 tons ammonium metavanadate in 2020. In China, steel slag producers run close to capacity while coal stone producers are not incentivized given the low pricing environment. In January 2021, there are coal stone vanadium extraction enterprises in production, with a total output of about 800 tons, 148 tons more than last month. And in February the vanadium production from coal stone was 710 tons which put the vanadium output from coal stone in 2021 to about 1510 tons, up by 45.19% over that quantity of 1040 tons in 2020 aimed for the controlling of COVID-19 in 2021. However, it is difficult to evaluate whether they still have flexibility to increase output this year as it is already close to capacity.
