China’s MEE Suspends Issuance Of Pollution Discharge Permits To Certain Companies

In order to accelerate the reform of pollutant discharge permit system of fixed sources and achieve the goal of complete coverage of pollutant discharge permitting administration, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) of China on April 7 released a notice on adjusting pollutant discharge deadline of fixed sources. According to the notice, MEE has suspended issuance of pollution discharge permits to certain companies that don’t comply with new regulations introduced by MEE, including those are not up to discharge standards, those with incomplete formalities and others failing to install certain equipment.

The pollutant discharging companies should put forward feasible rectification plan according to the existing problems, and ecological environment departments should set reasonable rectification period which ranges from three months to one year (maximum).
