Port Authority Seeking $134,000 Grant For Eastpointe Business Park

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority is taking the final step toward attaining grant funding for a project to help prepare the site for AMG Vanadium.

The company announced it will open a facility at Eastpointe Business Park and purchased 154 acres of land on the property in June. AMG Vanadium converts spent refinery catalyst to provide an alloy called ferrovanadium and other products to the carbon and stainless steel industries. The new facility will bring about 100 jobs and is expected to be completed in 2021.

The Appalachian Regional Commission approved the Port Authority to submit a final application for grant funding for 2,200 linear feet of water extension at Eastpointe. Matt Abbott, Port Authority executive director, said the project will cost more than $270,000 and the Port Authority is seeking about half that amount in grant funding from the ARC.

Preliminary estimates have determined that AMG Vanadium will be the largest water user in Muskingum County. The company uses 98,000 gallons of water per day at its Cambridge facility, and is expected to use around that amount at its new Muskingum facility.

The Port Authority approved the submission of the final application on Wednesday and hopes to hear back by the end of fall. Abbott said the project will then be put out to bid and the Port Authority hopes to begin work by spring of 2020. The Port Authority has received ARC grant money for paving work at Airport Business Park and Abbott said the investment the Port Authority is putting into the community makes it a great candidate for grant funding.
