MEE: Strictly Prohibit “One Size Fits All” and “Indiscriminate Accountability Activities” in Environmental Inspections

The second round of central ecological environment protection inspection will be launched soon. On 8 July, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) sent a special letter to provinces, cities and group companies to be inspected, requiring to strictly prohibit “one size fits all” and “indiscriminate accountability activities”.

The central ecological environment protection inspection teams will conduct the first batch of the second round of inspections in six provinces (cities), including Shanghai, Fujian, Hainan, Chongqing, Gansu and Qinghai and two central enterprises, including China Minerals Corporation and ChemChina.

Base on the document, provinces, cities and group companies that will be inspected are not allowed to suspend production indiscriminately and take perfunctory measures. In terms of rectification of ecological environment problems, local governments should make plans according to order of priority and complexity. All “one size fits all” activities will be seriously investigated and corrected.

The document requires cities and group companies that will be inspected to carry out accountability according to laws. Meanwhile, by strictly implementing related central documents, it’s forbidden to replace rectification with accountability and conduct indiscriminate accountability activities.
